Two Somalis Arrested for Trafficking in Miraa


Lusaka Tuesday 25th March, 2014.
The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested and jointly charged two (02) Somali nationals for trafficking in Miraa.
Muhammad Yusufu, 24, of Chaisa compound in Lusaka has been arrested and jointly charged with AbshirSiad, 39, of the same abode for trafficking in 12 bundles of miraa weighing 3.5kg.
And in a related development, the Commission in Nakonde has seized 36 bundles of miraa weighing 12.6kg on a Lusaka bound bus. The miraa was intercepted at Ulongo Police checkpoint in Nakonde. No arrests have been made; however, the Commission has instituted investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile the Commission in Central Province has arrested RaphealMboywani, 44, a Peasant farmer of Machangani village in Chibombo District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 10.50kg and Amos KamwayaChapusha,37, a Peasant farmer of the same area for trafficking in 40g of loose cannabis,
And in North-Western Province, the Commission has arrested Henry Muhunge, 22, of Chavuma District for trafficking in 2kg of loose cannabis.
All suspects will appear in court soon.
The Commission would like to advise bus operators to thoroughly check unaccompanied luggage before loading it on the bus.
