Lusaka Man Arrested for K 139,000

Lusaka Wednesday 2nd April, 2014.
The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested a 33 year-old businessman of Lusaka for money laundering activities involving over K130 thousand.
Steven Mulembeta Samuteba, 33, a businessman residing at Plot No. 39C National Housing Complex, off Twinpalm Road in Lusaka has been arrested for obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretenses and money laundering contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that Steven Mulembeta Samuteba on dates unknown but between 1st July, 2011 and 31st July, 2011 whilst acting together with other persons unknown in his capacity as Director of Ready Cash Enterprises and Mass Global Investments Limited with intent to defraud did obtain money amounting to K139, 000 from Mr Salimu Zulu a Director of Salnam Limited and pledged four (04) motor vehicles and cheques equivalent to the same amount as security. However, at a later date Steven Mulembeta Samuteba withdrew the motor vehicles pledged as security and sold them without honouring the agreement of paying back the money to Mr Zulu.
Meanwhile the Commission has arrested over twenty five (25) people countrywide for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.
Those arrested include Dickson Lungu, 46, a Peasant farmer of Akiyele village in Nyimba District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 788.8kg and Cosmas Daka, 45, a Peasant farmer of the same area for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 10.9kg.
Also arrested is Saidi Matola, 44, of House No. 313 Section 3, Kantanshi Township in Mufulira for trafficking in 2.9kg of loose cannabis and Maybin Chikonde, 24, of House No. D36 Kansuswa Township in Mufulira for trafficking in 1.6kg of loose cannabis.
And in Western Province, the Commission has arrested Nalisa Mubita, 30, a Peasant farmer of Njoko Maluma area in Sesheke District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 3.2kg.
All suspects will appear in court soon.
