Three more women arrested for drug trafficking
Lusaka, Friday 12th March 2010 Three more women have been arrested at the Lusaka International Airport for trafficking in pure grade cocaine. The three who were coming from Pakistan concealed various quantities of cocaine in their private parts. Emmy Nawale, 28, a resident of Lubuto, Ndola was arrested on her arrival aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight number ET 873. Ms. Nawale who inserted a block of cocaine in her private parts was operated upon at the University Teaching Hospital to remove the contraband as it was dangerously inserted. She is currently admitted to hospital and will appear in court soon. Others arrested are Sarah Chikwasa, 40, a resident of Kabinga in Ndola and Alice Sandi Mulonda, 39, a resident of Matero in Lusaka. The two who were on Kenyan Airways flight number 424 had also inserted the cocaine in their private parts. This brings the number of women arrested at the Lusaka International Airport for drug trafficking in the last seven days to four. The Commission is saddened with the emerging trend of drug trafficking as it is degrading to the dignity of women in our society and as such, would like to retaliate its appeal to women to come together and speak against this practice. Meanwhile, 94 people were arrested across the country for trafficking in different quantities of cannabis with a total weight of two tonnes.
