Service Security Police arrested for counterfeit

Lusaka, Wednesday 6thJanuary 2010.
A 37 year old state security intelligence officer has been arrested in Lusaka for being in possession of over US $70,000 counterfeit notes.
Richard Nzala, a constable in the Office of the President, was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission from Libala Township when he attempted to sale the counterfeits to some people.
Mr. Nzala was found with a total of US$ 79,900 in hundred dollar bills hidden in a laptop bag which he was carrying at the time of his arrest.
He is believed to be among a group of people supplying counterfeit notes to the general public.
Mr. Nzala is detained in Police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Lusaka magistrate court today.
He becomes the second security personnel to be arrested in recent months following the arrest of a Zambia Army soldier who was arrested for possessing over US$ 2.5 million dollars of counterfeit notes.
The Commission would like to warn that it will not spare any one breaking the law but will endeavor to bring them to justice.
Meanwhile, the Kitwe Magistrate court has sentenced a managing director at Logahead Logistics to four years imprisonment with hard labour for various money laundering activities.
Mr. John Nyondo was jailed together with his accountant Kennedy Maini after being found guilty of two counts of theft by an agent and forgery.

The Director together with his Accountant were arrested by the Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit of the Drug Enforcement Commission for stealing three truck loads of Copper Cathodes which they were transporting to South Africa on behalf of their clients Konkola Copper Mines.
